Professional Dairy Management Course for Managers

A practical training for the professional dairy manager


3.5 days of practical on-farm dairy training

Venue: on-the-farm training (Kangundo)


This is a 3.5 day hands-on course that focuses on giving dairy managers and supervisors the best practices on managing dairy farm herds (calves, heifers and cows). The participants are engaged on the day-to-day running of an efficient dairy farm.

The training takes place on-the-farm with practical training on all farm operations; from calf-rearing, daily routines, milking, feeding and nutrition, managing fertility, health and record keeping.

Course topics


This is a 3.5 day hands-on course that focuses on giving dairy managers and supervisors the best practices on managing dairy farm herds (calves, heifers and cows). The participants are engaged on the day-to-day running of an efficient dairy farm. The training takes place on-the-farm with practical training on all farm operations; from calf-rearing, daily routines, milking, feeding and nutrition, managing fertility, health and effective record keeping.

The course facilitators have vast experiences in the subject of dairy business, both locally and in European dairy sector like the Netherlands.

The course will cover the following topics that are critical to a profitable dairy farm:

  1. Forage quality and nutritional values
  2. Feeding for all categories: calves, heifers, dry cows, lactating
  3. Feed mixing and supplementation
  4. Milking procedures and milk handling
  5. Young stock management (calf rearing)
  6. Fertility management and breed selection
  7. Cow comfort and features of a good cow barn
  8. Dairy routines and key supervision areas
  9. Dairy record keeping and management decisions

 

Course delivery


Target: Farm supervisors, managers of medium-scale farms, owners and co-owners of small scale dairy farms.

Venue: On-the-farm, Kangundo

Package: Accommodation, Meals and Stationery, a Dairy General Guide, Presentation handouts, Dairy Excel Sheets and Tools as wells as transport (to the farm and Nairobi) during the training will be provided.

Course fees: Kshs. 31,500/- plus VAT

Important dates:

  • The participants will be picked on Monday evening, from Nairobi CBD, head to Tala
  • Participant will be accommodated for 4 nights Monday night to Thursday night .
  • Training begins on Tuesday morning, and ends on Thursday evening.
  • A Graduation ceremony will be held on Friday, at 10am.
  • Transport back to Nairobi for all participants on Friday at 12 noon.
